After the rainfall over the last weekend, the conditions have improved in many regions. At the same time, temperatures have dropped. As a result, from the middle of the week onwards, the storage of potatoes will begin. Supply pressure is not expected, as it is a manageable harvest volume. The sales side is flowing consistent with the season.
Occasionally, food retail promotions provide additional impulses. Prices can be maintained at last week's level. In Lower Austria, at the beginning of the week, the day price for mainly hard-cooking varieties was usually 25 Euro / 100 kg and for firmer varieties it was up to 30 Euro / 100 kg. For warehoused goods, prices are also somewhat lower. In Upper Austria, prices remained stable at 34 euros / 100 kg.
Rain stops onion harvest
In the weekend, larger amounts of rain fell on the onion growing areas. Clearing will now only be possible in the weekend. At the moment, this has little effect on the onion market. Marketing is relatively slow, in view of the low yields. Large bulbs of the very best quality are available only to a limited extent. Producer prices show no changes. Onions, cleaned and sorted in the box, depending on the quality and size, usually go for between 23 and 28 Euro / 100 kg.
Carrots: yields below expectations
The Lower Austrian carrot market is continuing to develop. The yields are below expectations, and the fields are increasingly affected by mice. Marketing focuses on the domestic market. The prices remain unchanged compared to last week.
