After the heat of last year and the resulting shortages, the onion market was exceptionally low in the first six months of this year. This resulted in a rush for imported goods: "Due to these market conditions, this year we had the best season of the last 30 years for our onions from Italy," says Daniel Voll from Vau-Ge.

The transition from Italian to southwest German goods went smoothly in June. "We only try to sell Italian goods until enough German onions are on the market." August and September are the peak months of the trade.
In contrast to the previous year, there are sufficient goods almost everywhere, and according to the expert, this makes it an average season. "The harvest is being rolled out across Europe, from Poland to Spain and Holland, and by the end of September we can roughly estimate how the yield has been across Europe. The market reacts accordingly."
