Kern County's almond harvest is underway; farmers are shaking their trees to produce billions of pounds of the commodity crop. Kern County is the No. 1 producer of almonds in the world. From a Mediterranean climate to quality water infrastructure, this area of the San Joaquin Valley is a sweet spot for almonds.
"Support your local farmers and we'll continue to support the area and community at large," John Moore, Manager of Moore Farms, says. Moore is a fourth generation almond farmer in Kern County. He says his farm has about two weeks left of harvest.
According to bakersfieldnow.com, right now, the USDA is expecting a 2.2 billion pound crop to be harvested in California.
