Larger quantities at reduced prices will arrive in Munich from the beginning of September

"Good demand for early Italian Muscat grapes despite holiday season"

The summer holidays in Bavaria will last another two weeks and the marketers are enjoying their well-earned summer pause in the Munich Wholesale Market Hall. "It is very quiet at the moment," says Andrea Rosenlehner, sales person of Christian Sulser GmbH.

Nevertheless, the demand for Italian grapes, traditionally one of the specialties of the traditional company, is now slowly increasing. "Victoria grapes are already winding down, Muscat Seedless White and Rosé are now increasingly arriving on the market," Mrs. Rosenlehner said of current market events. Currently, the prices of all varieties are still in the relatively high range. Muscat grapes are the most expensive.

La Reginella grapes
The demand for Italian grapes has been quite limited this far. "The interest in Muscat grapes is already there," said the saleswoman. "From the beginning of September, or when everyone comes back from vacation, things will really start back up and prices will gradually climb down," she expects. Exclusively in the Munich area, Christian Sulser GmbH sells the grapes of the Sicilian supplier La Reginella - from controlled, integrated cultivation. "So we do not feel any significant competition of, for example, Turkish or Greek Sultana grapes, which are currently available." Normally, the La Reginella grapes are offered until December at the Munich booth.

Berries discontinued, Italian pear campaign started
Furthermore, a large variety of local berries is currently being traded at the Christian Sulser wholesale market booth. Soon, the last batches of these will come in, after which batches from Austria will be at center stage. "Furthermore, the pear season is slowly starting. The first varieties, Santa Maria and Carmen, are coming in but they are not making a great entry. I'm also not a fan of this steady move to earlier and earlier varieties. Growers you should wait until the fruits actually taste great."
