The fresh apricot export season in the Sughd region of the Republic of Tajikistan has come to a close with record figures. In the first six months of this year, more than 3.6 thousand tons of fresh apricots have been shipped. This is 1.5 thousand tons more than in the same period last year, and more than 1 thousand tons more than what was exported by the whole republic in 2018.
In monetary terms, the fresh apricots exported up to July 1 were worth $ 753 thousand, which is $ 140 thousand more than in the same period last year. These are also record-breaking figures.
The fresh apricots from the Sughd region were exported mainly to the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan or Kyrgyzstan, to a total of just 15 countries of the world.
At the same time, according to the regional customs department in the Sughd region, the export of dried apricots was reduced by more than 1 thousand tons in the first six months of this year, and it amounted to 4,265 thousand tons, compared to 5,366 thousand tons in the first half of 2018. However, their value this year amounted to $ 1 million 502 thousand, which is $ 116 thousand more than last year.
The increase in the turnover generated by dried apricot exports against the background of a reduction in the physical volume is explained by the high prices that are currently paid in the global market for this product. In addition, the dried apricots exported by Sughd this year have been of a significantly higher quality, and therefore more expensive.
From the beginning of the year, producers in the Sughd region have also exported more dried peaches, dried pears and other dried fruits.
