China: "Supply window for Egyptian apples is longer this year"

Over the past few years, the Chinese fruit market has been undergoing some changes. In addition to the huge production of fruit grown locally, the volume of imported fruit has also been increasing year by year. Hexing Food (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd., whose focus was on exporting Chinese fruit globally, is now putting more emphasis on importing quality fruit into China. "In recent years, the demand for imported fruit in China has increased, so we have shifted our focus to the import market,” shared Tessa from this company.

Hexing Food (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. imports oranges from Spain, Egypt, South Africa, and Australia this year, but this year's market is different from the last. "Sales are slowing down and the price we are getting is not very high. For example, the price of South African Midnight oranges is 130-140 yuan per 15 kilograms, which is much lower than the same period last year. This is related to the supply of oranges from other origins and locally grown fruit.” Tessa explained.

"The supply window of Egyptian oranges is much longer this year than the last and will continue through September. In addition, South African oranges become available in July and Australian oranges became available in August, so supply has surpassed demand. The same is true with our imported apples - our imported apples from New Zealand are still in supply. At the same time, there are large volumes of oranges and apples on the market. Moreover, locally grown fruit are becoming available in large volumes, which has taken over market shares of imported fruit. Compared with imported fruit, many consumers prefer locally produced fruit because of their lower prices and good quality, which puts more pressure on imported fruit. We hope the market situation will improve in the next few days."

Hexing Food (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. will take part in this year’s Asia Logistica to learn more about companies wishing to export to China and interested in importing Chinese garlic, ginger, and apples. They welcome you to visit their stand: Stand N07 in Hall 5.
