Prices on the Austrian table potato market came under more pressure over the last week. Regionally, the harvest of the main varieties began. The yields per hectare fluctuate very strongly this year. Growers expect an overall low average gross crop. How much this will then be affected by qualitative impairments is still uncertain.
Storage partially started
The available volumes are now rising significantly due to the harvest and are more than sufficient for the quiet domestic demand, which is still low due to the holidays. In some cases, storage has already begun. With the approaching end of the school holidays in Eastern Austria, sales in the coming weeks should increase accordingly.
In Lower Austria and Burgenland, producer prices fell in the last week. At the beginning of the week, some €25 per 100 kg was paid for mainly hard-boiling varieties, but for these varieties up to €30 per 100 kg could be achieved. In Upper Austria prices remained stable at €34 per 100 kg.
Onion prices unchanged
No serious changes to the Austrian onion market. The marketing of winter onion stocks is slow. Summer onions are also already available. The yields are disappointing in many places. In addition, an above-average proportion of small goods is often reported. Producer prices were able to hold their ground at the previous week's level. At the beginning of the week, depending on the quality, between €23 and 28 per 100 kg were paid.
Quiet demand on the carrot market
The Lower Austrian carrot market is stable and unchanged from the previous week. The yields per hectare are on average. The domestic offer matches the quiet domestic demand. The prices haven't really changed much compared to last week.
