The Dutch company, Van Vliet Containers, has introduced a functional, affordable solution for scanning and counting CCT5 containers.
At the beginning of 2019, Container Centrals introduced a new CCT5 RFID label. This was done for more than 3 million containers, including CC Pool. Before the introduction of this new label, there were multiple scanning systems on the market. They were used to check the authenticity of the old RFID labels.
However, since then, just about all hardware seems to be unsuitable or is no longer supported. Instead, there is a small digital box on the market. With this, people can laboriously scan a CCT5 label. This system uses a beep and small light.
According to Bob IJpelaar, this solution is expensive. It also does not function well. IJpelaar is the Director at Van Vliet Containers. This system does not count labels and is very slow. It also has no authentication mode and is cumbersome to use.
“In the logistics workplace, speed is needed when counting and identifying RFID labels. If needed, we must be able to identify false labels using a verification mode," Bob says.
European users of CC Pool are hard hit by fake CCT5 labels. This is because this market offers no workable solution. The number of counterfeit CCT5 labels is also increasing at an alarming rate. These factors have resulted in people no longer scanning carts. Fake carts, therefore, remain in circulation.
This causes a problem for end-users. They, for example, want to return the carts to FloraHolland, Landgard or CC. These carts are not accepted or repaired. The result? CC Pool users are being duped.
Van Vliet initially created a solution only for its own logistics operation. They wanted to be able to scan the new CCT5 RFID labels. However, Van Vliet felt a responsibility to ensure that their clients could tackle this problem too.
Various clients have since shown interest in the solution developed by Van Vliet. These clients have been scammed with large numbers of fake CC carts. Van Vliet, therefore, decided to make its system available to not only its clients. It is also available, at the lowest possible price, to other Pool users. The reason for this is that Van Vliet supports CC Pool. The company wants to make the system available to other parties with the same intentions.
Van Vliet partnered with the computer consulting firm, RTiOT. Together they were able to select a device that was suited to scanning and counting the new CCT5 RFID labels. This selection was made after an extensive testing process.
Van Vliet had an app developed. It can be installed on a multifunctional Cilico Android handheld device. The result? There is now a sturdy scanner with a built-in UHF RFID antennae available. If you wish, you can make phone calls with it. It also functions the same as any other Android device.
The beauty of it is that this smartphone/scanner comes with the ‘Van Vliet scan APP’ pre-installed. This app can identify and count CCT5 labels. Van Vliet plans to expand the scan app soon. It will have extra functionalities. Think of, for example, scanning and counting the slot plates or stocking trolleys.
In short, it is a very powerful all-in-one device. It can be combined with a 4G sim card. Then it is capable of much more than merely scanning CC tags.
Counting and checking these containers is now much easier. This ease of use contributes to productivity, dock efficiency, and finding fake CCT5 labels. Van Vliet employees say the device is ‘fast, easy, and clear' to use.
