"Last year the overall production volume of Chinese pears was limited because the weather conditions were not favorable. The price was therefore quite high. At the beginning of this new production season, however, the price of Chinese pears is predicted to come down. The recent market price was around 1.4 yuan [0.20 USD] per 0.5 kg." This is according to Manager Wu of Hebei Choice Fruit Alliance Business Management Co., Ltd.
The production season of fresh pears lasts from July until September in Hebei. The pears can be stored in warehouses until May of the subsequent year. Sellers are able to guarantee year-round supply.
"The Hebei Choice Fruit Alliance mainly exports the Ya pear and Chinese white pear varieties. The average production volume of pears in Hebei has seen stable growth in recent years, with the exception of reduced production last year, which was due to poor weather conditions. The overall production volume of fresh pears is particularly large this year. The purchase price is therefore much more reasonable in comparison with last year. We expect the sales volume of fresh pears to significantly expand this year," explained manager Wu.
"We mainly provide services in the export market. We focus on export to the USA. The competition in the export of Chinese pears to the USA has grown more intensive in recent years. In order for Chinese businesses to stand out in the competitive export market among other global import and export companies, we rely on the management experience gathered by Zespri in New Zealand and Sunkist in the USA. Hebei Choice Fruit Alliance Business Management Co., Ltd. was established in 2017 and we currently have 9 member companies.
The overall surface area devoted to pear production among our members is around 3,667 hectares. The annual export volume is around 90 thousand tons. We require our member companies to follow accepted production standards in the import and export market. This helps us to regulate the overall export price and improve the competitive position of Chinese export fruit in the global market."
Manager Wu also commented on recent developments in the Sino-US trade war. "Certainly, the raised custom tariffs have an effect on the competitive position of our fruit in the US market, however, this does not affect our decisions with regard to the direction of our company. The USA remains an important export market for our fresh pears."
In addition to exports, Choice Fruit Alliance also supplies a small volume of fresh pears to the domestic market. Choice Fruit Alliance sells fresh pears through wholesale markets and e-commerce platforms. "Our company assets include custom registered orchards and registered packaging factories.
