As a fruit originating from China, various varieties of kiwifruit have enjoyed high popularity in the market for many years. Among them is the red-fleshed kiwi, a variety that is becoming increasingly popular with consumers. Mr. Corleone from the Mianyang Red Flesh Kiwi Centre Cooperative shared his knowledge regarding the current season: "This year’s kiwifruit will only become available from August 25th to ensure their sweetness and taste, basically the same as last year. As consumption increases year by year, the demand in the Chinese market has grown stronger. The total production this year is expected to be around 45 million kilos, while our center is expected to produce about 180,000 kilos.”
“In terms of prices, the differences between varieties are large, which is not only influenced by production and marketing regions but also the taste. In recent years, overall prices have been rising slowly. Compared with traditional varieties, the price of the red-fleshed Hongyang variety is higher. With a large number of varieties comes market competition, but consumers' knowledge of varieties is gradually deepening. Consumers now pay more attention to the quality and taste, therefore, I am confident that in the next few years, the demand for red-fleshed Hongyang variety will continue to rise, as, in addition to the characteristics shared with common varieties, the red-fleshed variety boasts very high eating qualities and medicinal value compared with green and golden varieties. It has the highest nutritional value among all varieties, especially, its amount of vitamin C is more than 10 times higher than lemons and more than 20 times higher than apples, therefore gaining the title of King of Vitamin C."
Mr. Corleone's growing center is located in Lexing Town, Anzhou District, Mianyang City, Sichuan Province, covering an area of 30,000 mu. Their Zhao Xiansen kiwifruit growing center in Anzhou District, Mianyang covers about 120 mu.
Since 2006 when they started to plant kiwifruit, they have accumulated a rich experience in kiwifruit cultivation. “Our main marketing channels include large companies who purchase for export or small wholesalers who purchase to market in wholesale markets, supermarkets, and online. We welcome buyers from overseas who are interested in our red-fleshed Hongyang kiwi to visit our centers and discuss co-operation. ”
