Colombia: Banana thefts in La Guajira could spread Fusarium R4T

The theft of bananas from the region of La Guajira, which was declared in quarantine by the ICA due to the presence of Fusarium R4T, could lead to the spread of this pathogen, as the thieves who enter the farms and take the fruits do not take the necessary sanitary measures to prevent the spread of the pest.

"We are worried that people who rob banana farms might also enter farms that haven't been affected by the plague and thus spread the fungus," said Eraminez Narvaez, the manager of the Farmers' Association.

The authorities said they were working together with the Army, farm guards, and administrators to conduct patrols around the plantations and prevent the irregular entry of citizens.
