According to the Spanish Agricultural Guarantee Fund (FEGA), during the month of July, the fruit and vegetable products that were most withdrawn from the market in terms of volume were nectarines and watermelons. This entity notified the withdrawal of 3.91 million kilos of nectarines and 2.65 million kilos of watermelons throughout the month, from a total of 13.25 million kilos of fruits and vegetables.
Third in the ranking were Paraguayo, platerine and flat peaches (1.96 million kilos), followed by peaches (1.72 million kilos), melons (937,450 kg), plums (709,747 kg), cherries (139,853 kg), peppers (138,400 kg), grapes (107,950 kg) and onions (105,200 kg).
From July 1, 2018 to July 31, the total figure amounts to 116.39 million kilos. Of this amount, 48.08 million correspond to citrus fruits, 27.16 million to stone fruit and 21.38 million to vegetables.
65% of the fruit and vegetable products withdrawn from the market (75.49 million kilos) were distributed free of charge to people in need and another 26% (30.23 million kilos) was used for animal feed.
