Bursa black fig exporters aim for 38 million USD (33,9 million Euro) of exports this year.
According to the statement issued by Uludag Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Exporters' Association, the harvest of Bursa black figs started on August 13, and their exports started on August 15.
Bursa black figs are exported to 44 countries
The association's Vice President Senih Yazgan stated that Bursa produces 20 thousand tons of black figs per year and that 14.7 thousand tons of these are exported.
Bursa black figs are exported to 44 countries; mainly to Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and France.
"Last year, we earned 34.8 million USD from the exports of black figs; 14.3 million USD from our exports to Germany, 3.7 million USD from the UK, 3.4 million USD from the Netherlands, 3 million USD from France and the rest came from our exports to many other countries. The exports of Bursa black figs started on August 15. This year we aim for 38 million USD worth of exports." said Yazgan in the statement.
Pointing out the role of promotions as well as food safety standards, Yazgan asserted that exports of figs are increasing every year.
"In almost all news about our figs, it is mentioned that the royal family also tasted the fruit. We are happy with this image." added Yazgan.
