Jinsi pumpkin prices fall significantly year-on-year

Recently, the price of Jinsi pumpkins in the Xinfadi Market dropped sharply year-on-year. Current products sold in the Market mainly come from Ordos and Baotou in Inner Mongolia and Dingbian in Shaanxi. There are also small volumes of Beibei pumpkins and Chestnut pumpkins from Fukang in Xinjiang available.

The Market is dominated by Jinsi pumpkins. While Beibei and Chestnut pumpkins are available all year round, their supply only accounts for about one-fifth of the total supply in the Market. However, Chestnut pumpkins from Xinjiang have seen a much better market in the past two years than previous years, with supply volumes also increasing year after year.

The cool weather this spring has affected the growth of Jinsi pumpkins in Hainan, Guangdong, and Guangxi, resulting in lower production and quality. In April and May, prices in the Market have risen significantly, attracting supplies from overseas. Prices only fell in June when Jinsi pumpkins from Hebei and Shandong became available in large volumes, also driving the price of Chestnut pumpkins from Xinjiang down significantly. Their current price is only half of that in the same period last year.

As the price of Jinsi pumpkins stayed at a relatively high level in the same period last year, with the significantly larger production this year, recent prices have dropped to less than half of those in the same period last year.
