According to a report recently published by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Minagri), Peru exported 272,077 tons of avocados worth 581 million dollars between January and June 2019. This is 10.3% more than in the same period last year.
It also means that Peru was the world's third-biggest exporter of avocados. In July alone, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Peru exported a total of 67,204 tons of avocado valued at 156.2 million dollars.
According to the Directorate of Monitoring and Policy Evaluation (DGESEP) of the Ministry of Agriculture, the main destination markets for Peruvian avocado in the first seven months of the year were Holland with 33.8% of the total, the United States with 27.9%, and Spain with 14.7%. Together, the three countries accounted for 76.5% of the total exported so far in 2019.
The main avocado producing regions are La Libertad, Lima, Junin, and Ayacucho, among others.
