In the current melon campaign, the average price at origin has fallen by 22.95% compared to the previous one, from 0.61 Euro per kilo in the 2017/2018 campaign to 0.47 Euro per kilo in the 2018/2019 season, according to data from the Prices and Markets Observatory of the Government of Andalusia. This price does not include any costs attributable to the handling and marketing of the product.
Looking at the different varieties, yellow melons have been sold this campaign at an average price of 0.78 Euro per kilo, which is slightly more than in the previous season, when they were marketed for 0.75 Euro per kilo.
The average price that growers have charged for Cantaloupe melons (Cat.I) has been 0.64 Euro / kilo, the same as in the previous campaign.
Galia melons have reached an average price of 0.47 Euro per kilo, when in the previous campaign (2017/2018), producers charged an average of 0.66 Euro per kilo. This represents a decrease of 28.79%.
Lastly, the average price that producers have charged for Piel de Sapo melons in the 2018/2019 campaign has been 0.90 Euro per kilo, 114.28% more than in the previous campaign, when the average price stood at 0.42 Euro.
