According to analysts of the EastFruit project, this week, the first plums from local orchards have hit the shelves in Poland. At the moment, only a very small volume is available on the Polish market, mostly consisting of plums of the varieties Cacanska Rana, Herman and Ruth Gerstetter.
This year, the plum marketing season has started very late in Poland. According to the online portal fresh-market, a year ago, the first batch of plums went on sale at the end of June.
The first batch of plums has been offered for 0.53-1.05 $ / kg, which is on average 47% more expensive than at the beginning of the 2018 campaign. Market operators don't discard the possibility of prices falling in the near future, as soon as the plums on the market come not only from the south, but also from the country's central regions.
According to market participants, the main reason for the higher prices at the beginning of the season is the decline in the yield in the whole country. Low average daily temperatures during the flowering period and a large amount of precipitation during the ripening period led not only to a decrease in the volume of these products, but also to a noticeable decrease in the quality of the fruits offered.
