The Austrian new potato market is showing an unusually stable outlook. The main factor for this market situation is the supply situation, which is still tight. With the moderate temperatures and widespread precipitation last week, the available supply has improved somewhat in the short term. Nevertheless, the supply is just enough for the moderate but steady domestic demand. There is no question of a supply pressure with a yield per hectare of 20 - 25 t in large parts of Lower Austria. This is unlikely to change much in the medium term. The clearing of the early varieties is already well advanced and the fears of low yields per hectare of the new varieties are becoming more and more concrete.
In addition, sporadic infestations have been detected here and there. Sorting out due to wireworm and Co. are certainly a constant companion again this year. Producer prices were almost flat on the previous week's level. In Lower Austria and Burgenland at the beginning of the week usually €35 - 40 / 100 kg were paid. Also quite stable the situation in Upper Austria. With quite passable yields and a satisfactory sales situation, the prices were at €42 / 100 kg.
Onion prices under pressure
The Austrian onion market is well supplied at this time. An abundant supply of winter onions is met by a relatively quiet domestic demand, mostly due to the meets due to holidays. In the export market, there is competition with cheap suppliers and the prices are under pressure accordingly. At the beginning of the week, the prices were between €30 and 35 / 100 kg, depending on the quality. In the medium term, the situation should relax noticeably. Summer onion yields are expected to be significantly lower than normal due to heat and disease pressures.
Carrot market unchanged
There are no fundamental changes in the Lower Austrian carrot market. The supply of early carrots is only slowly increasing. The available quantities can be sold at stable conditions in seasonally quiet demand without major problems on the domestic market.
