"Large European retailers competing for the 'zero residue' label"

An innovative line of phytosanitary products makes it possible to combat pests in a 100% natural way. The project in question, led by agronomic engineer Nicolás López de Hierro, is based on a line of phytosanitary products that help tackle aphids, whitefly, spider mite, mildew and Botrytis. Unlike other products on the market, these products are free from any residues that are harmful to the environment or to human health, because the ingredients are 100% natural.

"We are familiar with the phytosanitary sector and we are committed to providing solutions to deal with problems, but we are also increasingly focused on caring for human health and for the environment. That is the nature of DISPER Zero, an in-depth research that aims to achieve a balance between what must be fought and what must be preserved in a single product," says Pablo Baeza, technical director.

According to DISPER, studies by the FAO warn that uncontrolled pests and diseases may cause serious losses to global agriculture. Researchers point out that climate change will entail many difficulties in controlling pests and diseases, as the weather conditions are increasingly unstable.

"The indiscriminate use of phytosanitary products is another reason for the disruption of the ecosystems, making it, in turn, more difficult to combat said pests and diseases," says Pablo Baeza. "If we also take the increasingly strict European regulations into account, the grower is left without the necessary tools to keep growing," he says.

"Today's consumers demand greater food safety and high-quality products. The proof of this is that the largest European retailers are competing for the 'zero residue' label, offering products under this seal," said DISPER technical director. "This trend will continue, as crop protection legislation limits the number of active substances allowed," he says.

This innovative product line makes safe crop management possible without exposing the grower to harmful substances. "Providing solid pellets with the exclusive technology that we have developed prevents the spread of dust that is so harmful to the grower. It is an important achievement that we can offer safe treatments, guaranteeing that the product will dissolve perfectly," says Pablo Baeza. "The use of concentrated products makes it possible to reduce the dosage, as well as the excessive use of plastic packaging."

"The traditional plant protection system has created a false balance without respecting the auxiliary fauna and creating new problems. Only through integrated management is it possible to combat the pest and, at the same time, protect the auxiliary fauna, the ecosystem, and, of course, the end consumer," concludes the technical director of DISPER.

The DISPER brand, of Grupo Indalva, has been selected for the European H2020 program with this DISPER Zero project.
