Ecuador plans to ask the US for help to fight the Fusarium race 4

Faced with the threat of the Fusarium race 4 plague, which was recently detected in Colombia, the Vice President of Ecuador, Otto Sonnenholzner, announced that they were considering the possibility of asking the United States to let them use their unmanned aircraft that is currently used against drug trafficking to monitor the Fusarium race 4 (R4T), and specialized drones for agricultural purposes.

On July 17, the unions of exporters and officials of the Biotechnology Research Center of the Espol (CIBE), the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIAP), and the Ministry of Agriculture met to establish the bases for the investigation of a strain resistant to Fusarium race 4 as well as other fieldwork systems for the prevention and mitigation of the pest.

The meeting was attended by Acorbanec (Banana Marketing and Export Association), AEBE (Association of Exporters), and other leaders.

A few hours before the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) had announced the eradication of 152 hectares with symptoms of Fusarium that week.
