Apricots from Xinjiang performing well on the market

In China, apricots and peaches have been hitting the market in large volumes during the last few weeks. The shelf life of these fruits is not long, resulting in a short season. Furthermore, because they are very fragile, they need extra care when being transported to different markets, in order to guarantee quality. “Our apricots are produced in Aksu, Xinjiang. We grow a variety from Xinjiang, which is well received in the Chinese market. Our apricot season starts in late June and lasts through the end of July. This is a short season, but the sales are going well. Currently, the price at the origin is 10-15 yuan/kilo, but the packaging and labor costs are high. This is mainly due to the fact the Xijiang is in a remote location. The overall price is stable, with no noteworthy fluctuations. Only when something goes wrong in transport can the price fluctuate more,” Mr. Wei from Fresh Mao commented.

“The production this year is a bit higher than last year, and the main reason for this is that our apricots suffered from strong winds and hails last year. This year, the weather conditions have been much better, which has benefited the production of our apricots. The competition this year is fierce because there are a lot of apricots from different origins arriving on market at the same time, but we have better quality control than others, therefore selling our products at a higher price, and customers prefer to work with us.”

“Our apricot season will end within ten days, but we also have other products from Xinjiang that will become available. We do not have our own fields there, but we work closely together with the farmers over there. Later on, we will start with seedless white and purple grapes from Xinjiang, and Falanxi prunes from Kashgar. Seedless white and purple grapes will start on July 20, and Falanxi prunes from Kashgar will start at the beginning of August. ”
