The ninth edition of the World Avocado Congress will be held in Medellin from September 23rd to the 27th, 2019. The event, which will have more than 70 exhibitors and 3,500 attendees, will group the entire value chain of the sector globally.
The previous editions of the World Avocado Congress were held in South Africa, the United States, Israel, Mexico, Spain, Chile, Australia, and Peru. This year, Colombia has been selected for its great growth in production and exports. The country produces four varieties of avocado: the Hass (the most successful variety abroad), Papelillos, Criollos, and Antillanos varieties. The country was also selected due to its geographical location and its status as an emerging market.
"The opportunity to host the most important congress of the avocado sector in a country where the Hass avocado sector is still in an emerging stage, is a great challenge and responsibility before the national and international community that will attend," said Jorge Enrique Restrepo, the Executive Director of CorpoHass Colombia.
The World Avocado Congress will have workshops, scientific research presentations, and it will promote innovative methods for specialized audiences under six thematic headings:
Genetic resources and development of materials
Production and productivity
Health, nutrition, and gastronomy
Phytosanitary issues, fruit quality
Supply chain, marketing, and industrialization.
The congress offers a unique opportunity to broaden one's knowledge and have a broader understanding of the avocado industry.
