"I was in Egypt over the past few days for a European project and I noticed how the food market has livened up, meaning our operators have the possibility to commercialize again," explains Gianluca Bagnara, economist and consultant for European food and agricultural projects.
"Egypt is an exporter in winter but imports produce from Europe during this period, I have seen Italian apples in a supermarket. Egypt is linked to the Ravenna port, which we should use more."

Bagnara states that France is much better organized also because Carrefour and Auchan work to its advantage. Italy can make sales, but not per single companies.
"We need to join forces to guarantee high-quality continuous supplies. Spain is better organised for standardized supplies, while Italy must focus on products that stand out."
The operator reports seeing very few Italian operators. "With the due payment guarantees and a basic organization, I believe Egypt could go back to being an interesting country for exports as well."
