Cooperative Agrico has determined the payout prices for seed and consumption potatoes from the 2018 harvest and presented them to its members. The average price for seed potatoes in overall sizes from class S to A is € 39.57 per 100 kg; the price for the seed potato size is € 44.03. The average balance over all standard consumption potatoes delivered for size 0 / +, unsorted in delivery week 9 amounts to € 15,033 per hectare. The average price comes to € 34.21 per 100 kg. The price for organic consumption potatoes is € 41.97 per 100 kg. Unsorted, 0 / +, delivery week 3. This brings the average balance to € 14,539.
Seed potatoes
For several years, Agrico has been presenting the payout price for all sizes supplied. This year, the seedling pool of Agrico is € 39.57 per 100 kilos for all tonnes 28 delivered for the S to A classes. This is approx. € 1.50 higher than previously forecast.
The price per 100 kilos for the seed potatoes delivered amounts to € 44.03. This is a record, the highest financial yield per hectare ever in the history of Agrico.
Although the area of seed potatoes from Agrico has again increased by 3%, the supply in tonnes was considerably lower due to the enormous drought. The relatively high percentage of oversize was striking. Agrico members also benefited from the high prices for consumption potatoes. Due to the shortage, the price level for the overseas market was very high. Sales to the European fresh market went very well. The high prices for ware potatoes ensured a good demand for seed potatoes. In general, the high demand for seed-sized product could not be met. The amount of seed that remained at the end of the season was nil. Due to the limited supply in seed potato sizes, many of our customers, including the French fries industry, also purchased oversized as seed potatoes and a record price for all seed potatoes could be paid out.
Consumption common
Due to the warm, dry summer, European kilogram yields were considerably lower than the five-year average. This resulted in a positive market so that high sales prices could be realized throughout the season. Despite a lower sales volume, all agreements made for the season could be honored. Despite the extreme growing season, the quality was of a higher level compared to other years. Last season was the first year that a large group of Agrico growers successfully delivered their potatoes under the quality label PlanetProof. The season ends positively with an excellent balance.
Milva, the largest variety in the free-cooking segment, comes out at € 30.10. The Erika variety, one of the varieties in the solid-boiling segment, comes out at € 40.76. In the red-skinned group, the Esmee variety comes out at € 38.88. € 50.77 is paid for the Cerisa variety, a specialty variety. All prices quoted are per 100 kg, unsorted, delivered in week 9 in the size 0 / +. The balances of the different varieties are between € 11,000 and € 19,000.
Organic consumption
The dry hot summer of the past growing season had a positive influence on Phytophthora. This hardly happened. The kilogram yields were at the same level as the 2017 harvest year. In other countries in Europe, a shortage of potatoes occurred during the season due to a disappointing harvest and quality. This created export opportunities. The price level came under pressure at the start of the season due to a large supply. This recovered in the second half of the season. Despite a percentage of presale that had a negative effect on the payout price, the 2018 harvest can be closed properly.
Carolus, one of the "next generation" varieties, comes out at € 40.33. Another variety from this category, Alouette, pays out € 40.45. The fixed-boiling Ditta variety comes to € 45.97. All prices are per 100 kg, unsorted, delivered in week 3, in the size 0 / +. The balances are between € 13,700 and € 18,000 per hectare.
Member survey
In addition to a presentation of the payout prices, the recently conducted member survey was also discussed at the meetings. This research shows that 97% percent of its members are satisfied to very satisfied with Agrico. For its performance in the market, the cooperative scores the score of 8.0 by its members.
General manager Jan van Hoogen is proud of the results of the cooperative and especially of the good cooperation with the members that led to the high prices.
