The Ministry of Agriculture and Economy reported that Ecuador is free of the Fusarium Race 4 plague that affects bananas and plantains on the continent, before alarm is generated in the sector.
The Minister of Agriculture, Xavier Lazo, assured that Ecuador is informed, prepared, and actively working to control this disease. To date, all available and necessary biosecurity plans and measures have been implemented, through a protocol and contingency plan approved and validated by the main international phytosanitary control organisms.
The country has all the technical capacity in its laboratories to identify the disease that causes wilt and death in banana and plantain plantations.
In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has activated a whole human contingent in the territory for the technical support, monitoring, and verification of all types of activities that can put the country's phytosanitary status at risk, Lazo said.
