"Last week we visited our customers and service partners in Ontario and Quebec, Canada, where the asparagus season will go on until the beginning of July. They are very satisfied with the season," says Matthias Kinzel from Strauss Packaging machines GmbH.
Due to the cool weather, yields there were slightly lower than expected, but -as in Germany- somewhat better and, above all, more stable prices could be achieved. "Last year, due to the large quantities, the prices were lower or sometimes unstable. Green asparagus are mainly bundled into a one-pound packaging.
White asparagus is more of a German or European product, the expert says: "China also produces white asparagus, but this is mainly for processing." In North America, the 'white gold' is really not well-known as such.
