Plastiter

New more rigid and stable plastic trays for fruit packaging

The packing of fruits for their preservation in optimal conditions is, without a doubt, one of the biggest challenges for producers. That is why the company Plastiter, which was founded in Cordoba, Argentina, as a producer of disposable plastic containers, decided to explore a new market in 2018 with the introduction of the alveolar fruit trays.

Plastiter manufactures its products with recycled PET certified for direct contact with food; something that is highly appreciated by consumers. Diego Godoy says that "what used to be available in the market was of a much lower thickness than ours, but we achieved a much more rigid and stable tray that makes the products look much better. Thus, the alveolar tray has stopped being a simple container and has become an essential part of the products' presentation."

Godoy says that its clients "are fruit producers (mainly of apples and pears) and their packers, and although at this early stage we are supplying the domestic market, in the future we plan to expand to Chile, Peru, Paraguay and other Latin American fruit producing countries."

"Our main objective in the 2019-2020 season is to capture 50% of the local alveolar plastic tray market. To this end, last generation machinery is already in operation, and we will start production in the short term. We are in the middle of negotiations with distributors in the province of Neuquén and Río Negro, so that we can have a point of contact close to the producers and packers, since our company is more than 1,000 kilometers away from the Valley. We are also talking with transportation companies, so that deliveries can be quick and adjusted to the demand."

Plastiter is a versatile company that allows its customers to choose personalized designs for the trays they need without charging them an extra cost. According to Godoy, "we can manufacture them with the measurements, sizes and shapes that the client requires, allowing them to innovate in the packaging of their fruits. We've had to deal with big challenges in this area, allowing customers to leave traditional packaging behind."
