In the spring of this year, Huasong Seeds, the core enterprise of seed potatoes in Ulan Qab City signed a contract with the local municipal government, in order to benefit local farmers through an integrated production and marketing project.
Potato plants in the growing stage
Ulan Qab has the reputation of being China’s potato capital. Its vastness and cool climate make it ideal for growing potatoes. According to official sources, in addition to plots that lie fallow, Ulan Qab City has a potato planting area of 2.6 million mu this year. This year, Huasong Seeds signed a contract with the local government, to offer seed potatoes for 50,000 mu of potato planting, and is expected to increase to 200,000 mu next year.
Growing center of Huasong No.7 Potatoes
“In this project, we sold the Huasong No. 7 seed potatoes to local farmers at the price of 4,200 yuan/ton. Farmers also got 1,000 yuan/ton subsidiaries from the local government. After the harvest, we will pay 1400 yuan/ton to repurchase the commercial potatoes produced, and then market them all together.”
Dr. Jie Liu, Chairman of Huasong Seeds (Beijing) Co., Ltd., said: “The planting cost of the irrigated land is about 2,500 yuan/mu, and yields 3-3.5 tons/mu, and the planting cost of the dry land is 1,500 yuan/mu, and yields 2-2.5 tons/mu. The planting area of farmers in Ulan Qab is uneven, ranging from a few mu to several thousand mu. Usually, 2.5 tons of commercial potatoes can be repurchased per mu. In general, each farmer can earn 1,000 yuan/mu after the season."
Huasong No.7 Potatoes
Among the Huasong series of seed potatoes, “Huasong No.7” is a high-yield fresh potato variety with a beautiful oval shape and golden potato skin. Its taste is extremely smooth and creamy. In 2014, it was rated as an “Excellent Tasting Potato” by thousands of tasters from more than 20 provinces across the country. Currently, the potatoes are in their growing stage, and the performance of the emergence of the seedlings is very good. The farmers are very happy.
