Swiss concern announces reduction of approximately 90 places

Migros Eastern Switzerland reacts to intensifying competition

Migros Eastern Switzerland is reacting to the increasingly intense competition by streamlining its organization at its headquarters in Gossau. There is a reduction of about 90 jobs, which is achieved through natural attrition and early retirement, where possible. Nevertheless, terminations can not be avoided. The branch network is not affected by the reduction.

Intensive competition and unsatisfactory financial results in recent years have prompted Migros Eastern Switzerland to review its structures and processes at the operations center. CEO Peter Diethelm: "The market environment will continue to worsen over the next few years, and we want to stay financially healthy, so we need to focus our efforts and increase our efficiency."

With the streamlining of the organization at the headquarters of the operations center, the substantial increase in material and personnel costs in recent years can be reduced to sustainable levels. In total, around 90 jobs will be lost, affecting all key functions. Wherever possible, lost jobs are offset by natural attrition and early retirement.

Comprehensive social plan
Migros Eastern Switzerland, together with its internal and external social partners, the Commercial Association and the Butcher's Association, has developed a comprehensive social plan to mitigate the effects of layoffs and to provide the best possible support to the affected employees in their search for a new job. Managing Director Peter Diethelm: "The measures are painful, but necessary in order to safeguard the jobs of our almost 10,000 employees in the long term, and we will accompany and look after the affected employees in the best possible way so that they can find a new job as soon as possible."
