Plus increasing sales of unpackaged produce

Almaverde Bio proposes 100% compostable packaging

By proposing a new fully compostable packaging, Canova, a company of the Apofruit Group and exclusive licensee of the Almaverde Bio brand for fruit and vegetables, demonstrates its strong commitment to reducing packaging plastics, protecting the environment and making its production sustainable.

This ethical and innovative choice responds to the growing consumer demand to reduce the use of plastic materials, which makes organic production even more sustainable and environmentally friendly. This concept, supported by thorough research and innovation of its references, has always distinguished Canova, the Apofruit company specialized in organic production with over 800 producers dedicated to this demanding offer

Canova's compostable packaging of organic products represents a concrete response to its increasingly conscious consumers who are becoming constantly more aware of the fact that field choices like this one have a significant impact on the Earth's sustainability.

Every year 350 million tons of plastic are produced in the world and only 9% is recycled (source: European Commission). It is clear that the decision to invest in compostable packaging of vegetable origin for Almaverde organic products represents a real contribution and a sign of the company's dedication to this cause.

The packaging, which was initially presented at Macfrut 2019, is a tray which is suitable for both fresh fruit and vegetables. It is made in cartonboard and with raw materials derived from renewable sources; the transparent and rigid cover film is produced in NatureFlex™. This material is derived from wood and is obtained from reforestation plantations programmed on the basis of FSC's principles (or equivalent certifying body) and can be disposed of in both domestic and industrial environments. In addition, the label is 100% compostable. Following its use, the container can easily be disposed of in the organic trash container, which at the same makes it easy for the consumer and protects the environment.

"What we are now presenting is just one of the proposals we are developing with the Apofruit Group's Operations' Department. It represents our constant commitment to protecting the environment. Let us not forget that, in addition to being committed and specialized in the production of certified organic fruit and vegetables and therefore avoiding the use of synthetic chemicals, in fact, for some years now, we have been engaged in promoting and spreading the sale of unpackaged products at the Almaverde Bio sales points of the large-scale retail trade. The unpackaged products that we offer represent a concrete response to waste and the introduction of waste into the environment," declares Ernesto Fornari, general manager of the Canova company.

"This choice is, as always, coherent and attentive to the respect of the environment because organic production itself is beneficial to the welfare of consumers and the planet, and in general for the future," concludes Ernesto Fornari.
