Prices of bananas from various production areas remain stable

Last week, prices of bananas from various production areas at home and abroad generally remained stable. Prices of products from local production areas including Hainan, increased slightly, while the overall performance remained relatively stable. Currently, the main shipping areas include Hainan, Laos, Guangdong, and Guangdong. The high-quality volumes from Hainan and Laos can fetch 4.0 yuan/kg or more, while banana prices in Yunnan and Myanmar are not as high, with limited room in increasing. According to the analysis of Industry insiders, Hainan may end its peak shipping season mid next month, when agents will gradually move to the supplies from Guangxi.

Currently, banana consumption is competing with fruits such as watermelons, cantaloupes, peaches, and grapes, and the volume of shipment is limited. According to the data released by the National Produce Wholesale Market Price Information System, the overall trading volumes in the banana wholesale market have slipped to the eighth place in the fruit category, behind Black Beauty watermelons, cantaloupes, grapes, peaches, Qilin watermelons, and Fuji apple. However, overall, the current banana shipments have not reached its yearly peak level, so the limited consumption of bananas has not imposed a significant impact on the price of origin.
