Possibly, Myanmar fruit exporters have another market opening up in China as a company in Nanning has offered to buy fruits from the country. At present, much of the fruits exported to China goes through the overland border trade at Muse, Shan State.
Myanmar Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association president U Soe Than Min Din said a Chinese company had contacted the Myanmar economic attache in Nanning recently to ask about importing fruits from Myanmar. Nanning, the capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, lies just north of the border with northern Vietnam.
“We have sent them information on the type of fruits, quality and size of fruits we export to China,” he said. The company had enquired about the imports of mango, watermelon and honeydew, a mainstay of the overland border trade, to China.
Myanmar Melon Producer and Exporter Association president U Naing Win said his members were ready to send the fruits anywhere. Mmtimes.com quoted him as saying: “Watermelon season is in September, that is when we will be exporting and we can ensure the quality of fruits and the size.”
