The summer of 2018 was a long one. Thanks to this, there are still Danish apples available in stores in that country. This is according to the Danish Agricultural Board, L&F. The statement was made in a media report.
“It is unusual that we are still selling Danish apples at this time of year," says apple grower, Jan Jager. He is a board member of the Dansk Gartneri branch organization. For example, there are still sufficient apples in storage warehouses for the next eight weeks. Their quality is also good. This good quality is thanks to storage conditions that are increasingly improving.
Danish soil and weather conditions are perfect for growing apples. The summer of 2018 was extra favorable. This was due to the many hours of sunlight and little rain. Insects were, therefore, able to have ample access to the blossoms.
The conditions were excellent for the development of the fruit too. Last year, Danish apple farmers harvested 28,000 tons of apples. This amount is an increase of 25% compared to the previous year.
