Cone filled with cherries stimulates sales

Every cherry season they return to the assortment of wholesaler Gebroeders van Aarle from Schijndel: the cone bags for cherries. This year the design of the bags has been revamped with a fresh, trendy look.

Soft fruit
Edwin sees the season for soft fruit disappearing somewhat. "We are moving more towards a market in which we can offer soft fruit all year round, although better volumes are realised in the Dutch season. The quality of the strawberries, blackberries and raspberries from the Netherlands is also still better than the imported soft fruit. The demand is also increasing in the summer months."

The demand increasing has to do with two developments. "We see that the growers switch more to blackberries, raspberries and blueberries," says Edwin. This means the supply is present on the market. There is also a growing demand from the consumer. Soft fruit goes well with smoothies and these are a trend at the moment. "We see that the consumer wants something different in their smoothie than just strawberries," adds Edwin.

Prices
The strawberry certainly isn't losing popularity on the market. Edwin: "The demand for strawberries remains good and the prices are stable. At the moment we are switching from greenhouse strawberries to strawberries from covered cultivation and open ground. The blackberries were still cheap a few weeks ago, but are now rising in price considerably. The price of raspberries is down a little. The price of cherries is also good at the moment despite the lower supply on the market."
