Record citrus production results in challenges for Morocco

Following the 2018 annual report, Morocco experienced record citrus production this season in some regions. Berkane, in eastern Morocco, saw a 25 percent increase and Beni Mellal, in central Morocco, reported an 18 percent increase.

The increase in production in the MY2018–19 brought marketing challenges. Due to a lack of sufficient and modern packinghouses and cold-storage facilities, many farmers had to dump their product onto the market

Following the annual report, the citrus production made records this season in some regions,  especially in Berkane, in eastern Morocco, with a 25 percent increase and Beni Mellal, in central Morocco, with an 18 percent increase. The increase in Morocco’s citrus production in the MY 2018/19 has been very difficult to commercialize. Due to a lack of sufficient and modern packinghouses and cold-storage facilities, many farmers had to dump their product onto the market.
