California grower to focus on interactions at Organic Produce Summit

Companies are commenting that they appreciate the intimate setup of the Organic Produce Summit. With only a limited number of exhibitors, consistent booth sizes, and a moderately-sized venue, exhibitors say they have a better chance to interact with visitors when compared with larger shows. This is especially so for medium sized companies like Deardorff Family Farms.

"We really like the Organic Produce Summit for its setup," said Tyler Clear of Deardorff Family Farms. "It's intimate and we are able to see our regular customers and enjoy spending more time with them. We use it as a networking opportunity for our customers and hopefully meet some new ones. Overall, it's a welcome change of pace. For us as a medium sized company, we can send two people to attend which is enough at this show."

Focus on interactions and company values
Because the emphasis of the Organic Produce Summit is on networking rather than elaborate and large booth designs, Deardorff Family Farms has chosen it to showcase and demonstrate the company's values. These revolve around sustainability and Clear said their focus will be on telling visitors about the family-owned company's values and how it relates to their business model.

"Our booth is designed to be modest so that we can focus on the interactions with visitors," he shared. "Deardorff Family Farms has always had a commitment to sustainable agriculture. It is a fourth-generation family farm and we will communicate what our values are and the competitive advantages this brings. The format allows us to meet with a lot of people and put faces to the names of some of the people we have spoken with over the year."

Ready to ramp up again in October
Although Deardorff Family Farms does have produce available year-round, much of their production occurs during the fall to spring period. Summer heralds a slower time at their Oxnard base, providing a chance to prepare and discuss programs for the upcoming season.

"Summer is a slower time for us," Clear explained. "Many of the Oxnard region's crops wind down for the summer. We will take time for preparation and ramp up again when the local deals finish around October."

Tyler Clear and Luke Patruno will represent Deardorff Family Farms at Booth #804 at the Organic Produce Summit.
