Grown in Wuxuan County, Guangxi Province, the Wuxian Orange is a brand new citrus variety. It’s a variety with a firm and consistent fruit and smooth, red, shiny, and delicate peel. It enjoys a high brix level, and its pulp melts in the mouth. Its taste is sweet and palatable, coupled with a unique flavor and rich nutrition.

Juzhiyuan Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. based in Wuxuan County, Guangxi Province, is the developer and grower of Wuxian Oranges. Mr. Yi, its General Manager, recently had an interview with FreshPlaza. “This new citrus variety was jointly developed by the China Citrus Research Institute and us after 7 years of endeavor. After repeatedly experimented for 7 years, we have finally developed a high-quality variety that tastes good and is popular among consumers. Regarding prices, as the quality of Wuxian Oranges is higher, and they have a higher sugar content and taste better, their prices are slightly higher than other citrus varieties. This year’s wholesale prices at the origin are around 16 yuan per kilogram."

“For the citrus market, the advantage of this new variety is that its harvest season is slightly later than other varieties, and lasts till the end of May, ”introduced Yi, “Therefore, even when there are few citruses on the market, consumers still have some to enjoy. Post-harvest products are stored in cold storage and can be kept fresh until the Mid-Autumn Festival."

"This year marked the first year that we cultivated Wuxian oranges on a large scale. Their sales volumes are very good, and all the crops from this year are sold out. As this is the first year that we grow this variety, our planted area this year is rather small, at about 10,000 mu (667 hectares), all products are only for the consumption of the domestic market. However, in the coming years, with the increase in production, we have export plans in place to bring our products to the international market. We plan to increase the planting area year by year and expand it to 300,000 mu (20,000 hectares) within five years. Production is expected to reach 750,000 tons in five years, and reach half a million kilograms by 2020. At the same time, we plan to work with local authorities on the project of 'One Product, One County', to make Wujin Orange the main citrus brand of Wuxuan County, promoted to consumers all over the country. We provide free technical training to local growers, to help them maintain the quality of their products at a middle-to-high level, which is also a guarantee for their sales."
