Ginger prices keep rising due to multiple factors

Weifang City in Shandong Province is one of the main ginger production areas in China. Recently, prices have increased significantly. In the past few days, the price of ginger has risen by one yuan (0.13 euro) per half a kilo, with products of good quality sold at 6 yuan (0.78 euro) per half a kilo, and products with lower quality sold at 3.5 (0.45 euro) or 3 yuan (0.39 euro) .

According to Shuai Liu, an analyst at Zhuo Chuang Information, prices of ginger from the main production areas of Changchun and Anqiu in Shandong are still rising. Ginger prices have been rising very sharply since June, making farmers more reluctant to sell their products.

Looking back at 2018, the weather has had a major impact on the growth of ginger. In the early days of their growing season, the continuous high temperatures disturbed the growth of ginger, as they prefer cool conditions. Then, tropical storms brought a long period of rainfall. Main ginger production areas Changle, Anqiu, Qingzhou and others in Shandong have all suffered from flooding. At the same time, although the cultivation area of ginger in Hebei and the northeast has increased, the production of ginger has not increased due to high temperatures. Under the influence of these multiple factors, the supply of ginger on the market this year has decreased, driving prices up.
