In June, waxberries from Zhejiang are turning ripe. It is estimated that Zhejiang Province has an existing area of waxberries of 90,667 hectares. The overall weather condition in the first half of the year has been good, benefiting the growth of waxberries. Therefore, the total production of waxberries in Zhejiang Province is expected to reach about 640,000 tons this year, with an increase of 5% over the previous year. Dongkui waxberries are expected to reach 350,000 tons, and Biqizhong Waxberries 190,000 tons. The total value is expected to reach under 5 billion yuan (64.6 million euros).
In late May, the volume of Zhejiang grown waxberries on the market was rather low, mainly from Lanxi and Qingtian, grown in greenhouses. Based on current situation, the time open-fields waxberries in Zhejiang Province reach maturity is in line with normal years. The harvest seasons of Dinghuamei and Biqizhong waxberries started in early June. The peak season of Ningbo Biqizhong waxberries will last from June 15th to 25th. The harvest season of Dongkui waxberries is expected to start on June 15, with its market window spanning June 18th to 25th. Xandao waxberries grown in Zhoushan will be ready for the market by the end of June.
