Mr. Zhang of Anqiu Xinlong Food Co., Ltd. provided a similar explanation: "The price of fresh ginger is still rising. Market trade is vigorous. The price has already increased by 25% in the last two weeks to 1.2 yuan [0.17 USD] per 0.5 kg. Furthermore, the price fluctuations are large. There seems to be a new price every day."
"Most ginger traders are extremely careful with retail and storage of fresh ginger. Their current asking price is high and still rising. The export price increased by around 700 yuan [101.19 USD] per ton in only one week. Overseas buyers expect the price to rise even further, so while the price is currently quite high, they are still eager to buy fresh ginger sooner rather than later. We expect the peak of fresh ginger trade around July and August. Around that time the rapid price growth will probably slow down."
