Efko: Austrian cucumber harvest is approaching

About 4,500 tons of cucumbers to be harvested until August

The 14th of June is all about a crisp crisp green vegetable: the cucumber. To coincide with this special day, efko Frischfrucht and Delikatessen GmbH starts the annual harvest of the popular vegetables. Around 4,500 tons of cucumbers will be harvested by hand in the fields of 13 efko cucumber on an area of 75 hectares by the end of August. A total of 15 "cucumber pilots" with a crew of 25 men in the field.

"The first half of May was very cool this year, in some areas there was even frost. However, our cucumber growers reacted in good time and with the application of fleeces protected the cucumber plants that are sensitive to cold. Therefore, we expect a planned harvest start this year," says Klaus Hraby, Managing Director of efko. After the harvest, the fresh crops are put into pots only a short distance from the field.
