Regarding reports of a crisis for Tripura grown pineapples, Tripura's Horticulture Department has stated that 172,000 pineapples weighing 193.10 tons of pineapples -including 113 tons of the world class Queen variety- have been exported in last one month.
According to report, besides the 100 tons of export to Bangladesh, Tripura growers have sent at least six consignments of pineapples to Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati so far. Soon, other consignments will be dispatched in different parts of the state.
Officials have said that the state government - through the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation - has been trying to send more consignments of pineapple outside the state and also to start value addition by processing it. "The state government is committed to extend support the pineapple growers and for this, it was declared as state fruit last year by President of India Ramnath Kovind," a senior official of the horticulture department told uniindia.com.
