The Wonderful Company will be taking the opportunity to highlight some of their new products at United Fresh this year. Among these will be two new pistachio flavors as part of their No Shells line. The company will also be talking about the launch of a new citrus product, details of which will be revealed closer to the show. Diana Salsa, Marketing Director of Wonderful Citrus, said the company will have the new pistachios and some other products at United Fresh for visitors to their booth to sample.
"We have just introduced two new flavors to Wonderful Pistachios - chili and honey roasted - as part of our No Shells brand," she said. "We will have samples of all our products that are currently in season, including the new pistachio flavors and 100 percent pomegranate juice."
Additionally, the company will spotlight its merchandising materials. "One of the ways Wonderful stands out is that we arm retailers nationwide with our eye-catching in-store displays, which are free (at no added cost to them) and have proven extremely successful," Salsa added. "We will also be talking about our new citrus product which will be featured in this year's United Fresh New Product Showcase as well as the flavors and packaging for Wonderful Pistachios No Shells."
Timing of the year is perfect
For The Wonderful Company, United Fresh comes at a good time of the year. Furthermore, the company said it is a great opportunity to meet with its customers.
"The United Fresh Expo is a good show for us – particularly for Wonderful Citrus from a timing perspective," Salsa shared. "As United Fresh takes place just as the summer season gets underway, it's a great opportunity for us to talk about how the previous season went for brands like Wonderful Halos and share plans and highlights for the upcoming fall season. It's also an excellent opportunity to connect with retailers. We also really enjoy participating in the New Product Showcase each year to spotlight exciting developments with our brands."
New target market identified for Halos
The Wonderful Halos mandarin brand has appealed to a wide range of people since their inception into the US market. One of the target groups that The Wonderful Company has highlighted is health-conscious mothers with school-aged children. Mandarins are considered a healthy and easy to eat snack that children enjoy. Over the past few seasons however, the company has identified a new target group - adults over the age of 55.
"Over the past season, Halos remained the Number 1 brand in the United States and we have kept up our promotions through multiple media," Salsa said. "We have also utilized digital influencers, including partnering with some of today’s most popular family-friendly YouTube stars which are a core part of our efforts using kid-friendly marketing to promote Halos. This past season, Wonderful also focused more on adult snackers to our growing list of consumers who love Halos. These are people over the age of 55 without children at home that enjoy mandarins as a healthy snack. We have used media such as TV ads and FSI’s which have proven successful in reaching this mature audience."
She added that another highlight of the previous season was the increased interest in Wonderful's retail displays. "We enjoyed great success with our 'Grove of Goodness' displays to advertise Halos in store. Wonderful shipped over 20,000 of these point-of-sale displays throughout the season, representing a 75 percent increase over last year."
