Canova now producing organic strawberries, melons and watermelons

Ernesto Fornari, director at Canova, reports that, "now that the sun and high temperatures are back after weeks of rain, we can be hopeful once again. Orders are increasing and so it the quality of the produce."

Canova, which sells products under the Almaverde Bio brand, can count on producers located all over Italy. "We do not just sell the produce, we actually produce it and can provide a series of services also thanks to shipment centers in various parts of Italy."

Quality is good at the moment and quantities are not high. "We have managed to do a good job over the past few weeks as well thanks to supplies from Campania. The Melissa variety proved once again that it is suitable for organic production, with good yields and great organoleptic qualities. It was much appreciated abroad as well, as requests from Switzerland and Germany increased."

Another popular product is melon, of which 1000 tons are expected. We are talking mainly about netted melons weighing between 800 and 1300 grams. Organic mini-watermelons will start being in demand from mid-June onward.

"Another product that will be available throughout June is kiwifruit. Quality is excellent as it was stored properly. In this case too, demand i s lively from France, Switzerland and Germany."

When it comes to packaging, Canova is focusing on biodegradable solutions that can make the entire production chain sustainable. "Organic productions will become increasingly important in supermarkets, as consumers demand them. We must be able to segment the supply and find the right varieties that are good to eat, with good yields and suitable to be cultivated without chemicals."
