An American study by IndexBox reveals Morocco to be the 9th most important exporter of canned fruits and vegetables to the United States.
The Top 10 exporters account for 85% of American imports (the Top 3 representing 41%). Of the 779,000 tons of canned food imported in 2018 (+ 1.5% over 2013-2018), Spain supplied nearly 21%, which makes it the main supplier to the United States. Greece and India come second and third, with 11 and 9% of the American imports respectively.
Next come, in order, China, Peru, the Netherlands, Italy, Turkey, Morocco, Egypt, Thailand and France.
American imports reached 1 billion USD last year, which is 3.4% more over the 2013-2018 period. “The average import price of canned fruits and vegetables was 1.3 USD/kg in 2018,” according to IndexBox.
Greece is the country with the highest prices (2 USD per kg), while India has the lowest prices (0.728 USD per kg).
