Rose Anne: “a new variety of tasty small potatoes, ready in 12 minutes”

For the past month, the Rose Anne has been present at the MIN of Rungis. This new variety, which is a cross with the red potato of the Andes, has a peculiar bicolor aspect, oscillating between red and pink. According to Frédéric Champion of the company Pomleg, this nice tuber with coppery highlights grown in the Beauce, has more than one asset to seduce the public.

“Thanks to a partnership with plant developers, we managed to obtain a really interesting product. Besides this unique aspect in terms of colors, the Rose Anne presents a slightly elongated shape and a yellow flesh, color which attests that the potato is tasty.

It is a product that will do well in the kitchen, not only cooking nicely but also with a very pronounced taste, a very nice potato taste. But the main asset lies in how fast it cooks. The Rose Anne only requires 12 minutes of cooking in a pressure cooker, whereas a firm flesh equivalent would require 20 minutes. The cooking time is therefore nearly cut in half.”

The grenaille of the Île de Ré is having a good start
“This year, the market is doing quite well. We benefited from favorable weather conditions towards the end of the winter, so we have interesting volumes. Prices are therefore very reasonable for early potatoes, although they are still scarce at the moment. We can then meet the demand without any drag on the sales. This year, we expect to have some until the end of June to mid-July, with a production peak in 2-3 weeks, which will make prices even more interesting.”

Besides the grenaille of the Île de Ré and the Rose Anne, Pomleg offers a wide range of potato calibers and varieties, always with the same approach: “I focus all my purchases on the quality of the products that I sell at Rungis, both visually and in terms of taste.”

About Pomleg
The company has been on the Rungis market since 1969. The Pomleg creators were active at the Halles of Paris, in the potato business. “Originally, Pomleg was highly specialized in potatoes, garlic, onions and shallots.” The company was taken over in 2011. The new CEO, Mr. Nicolas Collot, a potato producer, is attached to maintaining the company spirit while trying to develop the range, now offering vegetables from Brittany, selected as always for their quality.
