Port of Dunkirk: a future trading platform between China and France

The port of Dunkirk, the third largest port in France after Le Havre and Marseille, wants to grab the opportunities offered by the initiative “One Belt, One Road” to strengthen the trade between China and France.

On May 16th, some 400 delegates attended the 7th Dunkirk Harbor Night, an event organized by the French port authorities of Dunkirk at the St Regis Jing’an in Shanghai. They discussed the company’s performance in 2018 and its future development.

The volume of bilateral trade between China and France increased by 15.5% from one year to the next, to reach 62.9 billion USD (434.5 billion yuan) in 2018, its highest level ever.

The initiative “One Belt, One Road” will make it possible to strengthen this trade. Moreover, the port’s handling capacity has increased to 51.6 million tons, with ore freight and container volumes breaking records in 2018, and investments should reach 53.55 million USD in 2019.
