First certified Jerte cherries hit the market

The Regulatory Council of the Protected Designation of Origin Cereza del Jerte has started certifying the first cherries of the Navalinda variety. These cherries, which will soon be on the market, feature the back label that guarantees maximum quality.

The president of the Regulatory Council, Emilio Sanchez, said that "so far, the campaign hasn't gone as well as desired. The rains have spoiled many early cherries, although the Picota del Jerte will benefit from them."

In the Jerte Valley, cherry cultivation is carried out in a natural, traditional way, without additives, which results in the fruit having a unique flavor and a very high content of vitamins, trace elements, flavonoids, etc. After a careful selection in the field, following rigorous quality controls, only the best ones are identified with the seal of the Designation of Origin Cereza del Jerte.

There are many different types of cherries. The main variety in the Jerte area is the Picota, which arrives in the first half of June and will be marketed until the first week of August.

The maximum quality guaranteed by the Protected Designation of Origin Cereza del Jerte is very easy to identify at any greengrocer thanks to the back label that accompanies each box of cherries from the Jerte Valley.
