Paraguay: Producers threaten roadblocks unless bananas included in school snacks

The legislation that included bananas in the school snacks generated great expectations among producers who hope this will allow them to increase sales.

"We have enough quality and quantity to supply the school snack program nationwide," said engineer Milciades Sosa, who participated in the last session of the Departmental Board of Caaguazu.

However, according to the productive segment, the governors and municipal mayors don't have the political will to comply with the regulation. "It's a situation that makes us think badly," Sosa said.

Given the situation, they plan to start a measure of force on May 23, at three strategic points of the country.

The protests will center on route 7, on the way to Tembiaporã; on route 10, at the Bertoni junction of Guayaibi; and in Arroyo and Esteros de Cordillera; where vehicular traffic will be closed intermittently.
