Colombia looks to export bananas to China

The Minister of Agriculture, Andres Valencia, stated during the celebration of a forum organized by the banana association of Magdalena and La Guajira, Asbama, in Santa Marta, that Colombia was looking to promoting the export of bananas to China.

The minister said that they were currently adjusting the international protocols to be able to send bananas to the Chinese market, which imports more than 900 million dollars of bananas per year.

"Two Chinese experts will visit the country in July to work in the Uraba and Magdalena banana crops to consolidate their access to the Chinese market and start selling fruit to that country," the minister said.

In addition, the minister stressed that the recent signing of the Free Trade Agreement between the United Kingdom, and Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador, guarantees that if the Brexit is implemented, the modality in which the bananas are exported there will remain as it currently is with the European Union.
